This honestly felt like David Fincher's cracking his knuckles, doing a couple jumping jacks, stretching out his muscles. Just getting ready to show us what he can do. It's got a lot of the Fincher touches: it's well cast, uses plenty of golds and blues, features an increasingly paranoid and distrustful protagonist (I wouldn't call him our hero, since Fincher's main characters rarely are and Michael Douglas in particular specializes in the asshole who slowly comes undone due to circumstances of his own making). Anyway, apparently this did not get that much attention when it was released which is kind of a shame because it's kind of great, for what it is. Just a well-done thriller with some style.
But I still hate Michael Douglas. Maybe it's because of Falling Down, I don't know. But that guy is the worst.
