Beautiful. Well-intentioned. Kind of falls apart at the end. Definitely some interesting gender stuff happening here, but despite its aspirations is nowhere near the level of suspense or tight plotting of Alien. Let's not even talk about all those sequels. Some day, when I've got a large chunk of time, I will write about the Alien series. Today is not that day.
But GEE Fassbender sure is handsome in this. The Peter O'Toole thing he does works for him, very well. And his performance is so, so great- funny, sardonic, wrathful (despite the illogicality of his being so), guileless, manipulative. Just really great stuff. And there is some other great work too! Even though about 78% of Charlie Theron's characters decisions make no sense to me I think she is great as well, as is Noomi Rapace, and Idris Elba. The other actors all have their moments and I think do the best they can consider how sort of stupid and/or clouded their motivations are.
