This movie just wanted to be too many things to too many people. I remember reviewing it for my college newspaper. It was a pretty thorough disappointment to me, even after the mess that was X-Men 3. So many big dumb action movie cliches, on top of telling a backstory that had been told far more interestingly throughout X1 and X2, made this feel like a weird retread.
