Watched: Fruitvale Station

This was not an easy film to watch but I do think it was really well done. Director Ryan Coogler uses the shaky cam, almost first-person (from the perspective of Michael B Jordan's character Oscar) effect, combined with multiple closeups of his face, which really let us into his perspective. We sympathize with him. It helps that Jordan is an excellent actor (as is Octavia Spencer, as his mother). The pacing is even, although things slow down as we get closer to the terrible shooting and the end of Oscar's life. The story is obviously based on true events that happened on New Year's Eve/Day 2009 and it's seriously tragic. I think even moreso because Oscar isn't painted as a perfect saint, he's flawed, we see him making poor choices in the past and the present but we also see him striving to better himself. Ugh. I don't know. This film was fucking heartbreaking to watch and I had to take breaks while watching because I knew what was going to happen and the longer I watched and the more we were seen of Oscar's life the more terrible the inevitable ending was. So well done but also God damn.

Also, Chad Michael Murray is still working?

Ugh, again. Niagara Falls.
