Watched: The Magnificent Seven (1960)

I expressed a lot of my feelings about this, the original remake of Seven Samurai, in my post on the remake, but I do think that this version has the more charismatic gang of movie stars. Yul Brynner, Steven McQueen, James Coburn, Robert Vaughan, even Eli Wallach ONCE AGAIN playing a Mexican character (WHY HOLLYWOOD, WHY?!?!) all have a lot more easy-going chemistry and macho happening than the remake. (Personal opinion). This may or may not be influenced by the one-two punch of Yul Brynner in his second-most iconic role and Steven McQueen at, like, peak of his masculine beauty. Yeah, it is undoubtedly problematic on a lot of gender and race-related storytelling issues, but it's still a classic in a way the remake will never be.
