To my mind, the last great Tim Burton movie. Just a classic, sentimental story filled with magical realism. It's not a perfect story even with allowances granted for our unreliable narrator and subjective storytelling but it's still beautiful and many of the images of this film have stuck with me since I saw it in the theater back in high school. Also, an amazing cast including an irresistible Ewan McGregor, pre-American famous Marion Cotillard, a teeny tiny cameo from a teeny tiny Miley Cyrus, Jessica Lange, Billy Crudup, HBC (of course), Danny Devito, Loudon Wainwright III, Steven Buschemi, and at the heart of the framing story, Albert Finney playing an older version of McGregor's hero with the perfect combination of sadness, denial, mischievousness, and anger.
